1. The DOJ served the Fed with grand jury subpoenas 👨⚖️
Trump: “We’re criminally indicting you for lying under oath about the Fed building renovation cost.”
Powell: “Errr, ok… you sure this isn’t about us not lowering rates as much as you’d like?”
The market reaction so far:
- Gold – ripped.
- Bitcoin – yawned.
- Stocks – slumped.
2. Macro 🌎
Ok, take all of the above, and add it to the following…
- Markets react to Trump's call for 10% credit card rate cap – Mon – The current rate is ~22%. This change would hit large banks’ earnings by an estimated 5-18%.
- December CPI Inflation data – Tue – Did inflation cool, or heat up last month?
- October New Home Sales data – Tue – Were Americans buying more or less new homes at the start of last quarter?
- Market Structure Bill vote – Wed – This bill will make crypto safe to invest in (from a regulatory standpoint) in the U.S. This Wednesday’s vote is step 2/5 of getting it passed.
- November PPI Inflation data – Wed – How much did wholesale prices increase/decrease in November?
- US Supreme Court Tariff ruling expected – Wed – Will the Supreme Court rule in favor of the Trump Tariffs?
On that last point, betting markets are saying “Eh, probably not”.
We’ll also see the first meaningful run of Q4 financial reports from public companies this week.
