The Oil crisis & global economic stability
- The primary macro concern is the volatility of oil prices driven by conflict in Iran and the precarious status of the Strait of Hormuz. (not yet known as the Strait of America but TBD).
- The $100 threshold: Oil recently spiked to $120 before settling back near $85.
- Staying above $100 for an extended period would likely force Western governments to deploy strategic petroleum reserves. (not good.)
- Economic destruction: If oil reaches and maintains a price of $120 per barrel for over a month or so, this could cause irreversible economic damage and global demand destruction. (catastrophique.)
- Inflation impact: Elevated oil prices make it difficult for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates, as rising energy costs could reignite out-of-control inflation.
- UNTIL THIS IS OVER - OIL IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN MACRO.
