Uniswap DeFi Has Gone Cross-Platform

Imagine accessing the power of DeFi from anywhere, at any time, on any device – without missing a beat.

Uniswap Labs is making that dream a reality.

Previously just a web app exchange, Uniswap Labs has expanded its offering to include a wallet and additional interfaces, through a Chrome extension and mobile app. These have been carefully designed to be the best way to manage and trade crypto, no matter what device you’re using.

If you haven’t tried out the Uniswap Wallet browser extension or mobile app yet, you’re in the right place!

Read on below for a quick overview of Uniswap Lab’s three main DeFi products, and what you might be missing out on.

Uniswap Labs’ Multi-Device DeFi Options

Uniswap Labs’ current selection of interfaces consists of three main products:

  • Web App: The classic interface everyone in DeFi knows and loves. It’s your go-to for swapping tokens, providing liquidity, and more.
  • Chrome Extension: This handy tool lets you access the Uniswap Protocol right from your browser’s sidebar. It’s quick, easy to access, and won’t interrupt what you’re doing.
  • Mobile App: Perfect for when you’re on the move. The Uniswap mobile wallet puts all of Uniswap’s features in your pocket. Manage your funds with just a tap, whether you’re on the go or just relaxing at home.

But why does Uniswap DeFi need so many interface options?

It all comes down to Uniswap’s sheer dominance in the DeFi world, which makes it essential for accessibility through any device.

Uniswap’s DeFi Dominance

By the numbers, Uniswap Protocol is by far the biggest exchange in the DeFi space. According to DeFiLlama, it has $4.47 billion in total value locked (TVL) across all tracked networks (as of 28th August, 2023).

For perspective, the second-largest decentralized exchange, Curve, only has a TVL of $1.95 billion. This significant gap shows that Uniswap Protocol is the top choice for a majority of DeFi exchange activity – at least in terms of liquidity provision.

The story is similar when it comes to trading volume. Uniswap Protocol almost doubles its nearest competitor, PancakeSwap, in terms of 7-day average trading volume ($8.05 billion vs. $4.36 billion).

Although we don’t use the Uniswap exchange for absolutely every DeFi transaction, it definitely accounts for a huge proportion of trades.

So, instead of manually navigating to the Uniswap web app all the time, why not have it readily available?

The good news is that this is easier to do than ever.

Effortless Uniswap Setup Across Devices

Whether you go for the DeFi browser extension or the mobile app, setting up the Uniswap Wallet is a breeze. The process is as straightforward as it gets, even if you’re a newbie.

Simply download the extension and/or mobile wallet via the official Uniswap Labs website, then follow the setup instructions.

You can import an existing wallet (such as MetaMask) by entering your current seed phrase, or create a new one in just a few clicks.

I managed to set up both, using my existing MetaMask seed phrase, in under two minutes… Pretty darn quick if you ask me!

Consistent & Intuitive Across All Platforms

The first thing I noticed after using all three Uniswap DeFi interfaces was the consistency across each platform.

Whether you’re using the web app, mobile wallet, or browser extension, the interface remains almost exactly the same. Just check out this side-by-side of the web app and the browser extension’s swap function:

As you can see, the extension looks and feels like a perfect reflection of the web app, just in a smaller window. The same goes for the mobile wallet app, which appears as if someone pinched the browser extension and put it on my phone screen.

This consistency lets you switch between devices without a hitch, managing your assets with confidence. There’s no learning curve and zero need to adjust to different layouts or functionalities – it’s all intuitive and familiar.

Exchange Tokens Anywhere, Anytime

Set-up and aesthetics aside, Uniswap Labs has absolutely nailed ease-of-use with all of its interfaces.

Need to make a quick exchange? You can hop on any device or browser and swap in seconds.

Connect To Any Browser Via WalletConnect

The Uniswap mobile wallet allows you to connect to the Uniswap exchange and other apps on any desktop browser without an extension, via WalletConnect.

When connecting to a DApp on any browser, simply select “Uniswap Mobile” or “WalletConnect” and scan the QR code with your camera in the Uniswap mobile app.

Non-Intrusive Extension

When it comes to the Chrome extension, what I found particularly impressive was its simple activation shortcut: Command + Shift + U. This instantly summons the Uniswap Wallet sidebar – no matter what you’re currently doing in your browser.

As you can see, this isn’t your typical browser extension pop-up. Rather than covering up part of your browser window, it simply nudges it to the side instead.

This is simple, yet genius, as it lets you operate your wallet and exchange tokens without disrupting your workflow. On top of that, it’s super easy to copy and paste details like contract or wallet addresses, without accidentally closing the browser extension window – something that happens to me very often with MetaMask.

Extra Uniswap DeFi Features

Uniswap’s Wallet is more than just a swapping app. Unlike its web interface, the wallet lets you view and manage your tokens, NFTs, and on-chain activity – across all chains at once.

You can even use it to directly buy crypto with fiat.

Yet another cool feature is the extension’s ability to open token pages directly within the Uniswap web app. Here, you can view real-time candlestick charts, stats, and transactions – but more on this in the next article (keep an eye out!).

Proven Reliability, Trusted by Millions

Finally, let’s check out the track record for Uniswap Labs’ newer DeFi interfaces so far.

Since its launch in 2023, the Uniswap Wallet mobile app has already surpassed 1 million downloads across iOS and Android. Users have overwhelmingly positive feedback, with thousands of 4+ star reviews complimenting its simplicity and ease of use.

While newer, the Uniswap Wallet browser extension has quickly gained traction with over 40,000 downloads and counting. Once again, they seem to have hit the nail on the head, already raking in a ton of positive reviews.
