Uniswap Wallet Deep-Dive: The Most User-Friendly Wallet Yet?
What is the Uniswap Wallet?
Uniswap Labs has taken its game to the next level with its Uniswap Wallet, available as both a mobile app and Chrome browser extension.
This wallet is much more than just a decentralized exchange interface for swaps – it’s also quite possibly the most user-friendly web3 wallet we’ve seen so far.
With Uniswap Wallet, you can:
- Manage all your tokens across all EVM chains, in one place.
- Send funds to human-readable addresses.
- Enjoy a non-intrusive extension sidebar, instead of pop-up windows.
Uniswap Labs has clearly listened to DeFi user pain points, and delivered on fixing them. It’s the perfect expansion of the Uniswap Labs product suite – which we previously covered as a whole here.
Uniswap Wallet Key Features
Here’s a glance at what you get with the Uniswap Wallet, all pieced together in an immaculate user interface.
It’s also almost identical on mobile, making it easy to use on any device.
Some of Uniswap Wallet’s key features include:
- View all assets on all chains at once
- Built-in swaps with MEV protection
- Buy crypto with fiat
- Custom wallet addresses
- Human-readable transactions
- Token charts & info in one click
- Self-custody
- Audited & open-source.
Let’s take a look at each of these in more detail, as well as some cool bonus features that are platform-specific.
Uniswap Wallet Core Features
View All Chains At Once
If you’re a DeFi power user, you’ll know that it gets tiresome switching between networks to check balances on different chains.
Uniswap Wallet makes this a thing of the past by letting you view all your tokens across supported chains in a single list, at all times. No need to switch networks, no need to add up balances across chains.
Each token is clearly stamped with a symbol of the network it’s based on, so you can decipher everything at a glance.
Any token balances worth under $1 are hidden by default, so you don’t have to worry about clutter from dust amounts.
If you like to dip your toes in NFTs, the wallet also has a separate tab for collectibles, tokenized positions, and other non-fungible assets.
Built-In Swaps
At this point, you’re probably wondering, where the heck is Uniswap Protocol’s signature decentralized exchange interface?
Don’t worry, it’s in there!
Uniswap Wallet’s built-in swap function is styled exactly like the Uniswap web interface that we’re all familiar with. There’s no learning curve at all – just swap tokens as you always have, right from within your wallet.
Under the hood, you’re also getting MEV protection, which makes sure you don’t get taken advantage of by hidden trading bots.
This offers automatic protection for transactions and even allows users to earn money from backrunning opportunities.
Buy Crypto With Fiat
Many of you may already have bought crypto on a centralized exchange like Coinbase or Robinhood. If that’s you, it’s easy to transfer your crypto directly from these platforms to your Uniswap Wallet, under ‘Receive’ > ‘From an account’.
If you still need to buy crypto with fiat, Uniswap Wallet has you covered. No exchange account needed.
The “Buy” function lets you purchase popular cryptos using various payment methods, including bank cards, transfers, and even Apple or Google Pay (through some fiat on-ramp providers).
These are conducted through third-party payment processors, with varying fees.
Depending on the amount and the payment processor you select, purchases can be made in a matter of minutes, or sometimes even seconds.
Custom Uniswap Wallet Addresses
Over time, I’ve gotten tired of copying and pasting long strings of numbers and letters to send and receive crypto. I’m sure you probably have, too.
To fix this, Uniswap Wallet lets you claim a human-readable address for each account when you set it up. For example, I picked alexmilkroad.uni.eth for mine.
This makes sending and receiving funds as easy as remembering a simple name, rather than a random string of characters.
Human-Readable Transactions
Whether it’s the built-in swaps or other DeFi transactions, you’ll also notice a nice touch of human-readable transactions.
Uniswap Wallet makes transactions human-readable, so you can easily understand what’s happening with your funds:
No more puzzling over cryptic transaction details. You’ll be clearly shown the amount of any token leaving your wallet, the contract address it’s going to, the function being performed with the funds (if identified), and the expected transaction fee.
The “Activity” tab also clearly lists your transaction history, with simple labels and symbols that make everything easy to understand.
Token Charts & Info In One Click
Need more info on a token in your wallet? Just click on it, and Uniswap Wallet will open a detailed token info window.
You’ll get everything from price charts to market cap, yearly highs and lows, and even links to the token’s website and social media. Scroll down and you’ll also see public Uniswap Protocol trade history on the token’s popular pairs, as well as major liquidity pools.
You can also conduct swaps for that token right from the info page. If you’re using the extension, this opens in a new browser window; on mobile, it takes you to a new page within the app.
Uniswap Wallet Security
Self-Custody
Wondering who has access to your funds and seed phrase in the Uniswap Wallet?
The answer is simple: You, and you only.
Uniswap Wallet is completely non-custodial – a vital feature of any secure web3 wallet. You retain full control over your funds and seed phrase at all times. Nobody else, not even Uniswap Labs can touch your assets.
Audited & Open-Source
Uniswap Wallet has made security a top priority.
The code has been independently audited by Trail of Bits, making sure that any potential vulnerabilities were found before they could be exploited. You can rest easy knowing your funds are protected.
The wallet’s code is also fully open-source and available for anyone to review. This level of transparency means anyone can take a closer look at the code behind the Mobile App and Chrome Extension.
On top of that, outside developers can collaborate and build new products with Uniswap Wallet as their foundation.
Uniswap Wallet Additional Features
Push Notifications (Mobile)
Stay on top of your crypto activity without constantly checking the app, with Uniswap Wallet’s push notifications.
You can get alerts whenever there’s any on-chain action involving your address, so you know exactly when you receive a payment (or if your wallet’s being used on another device!).
Connect To Dapps On Any Browser (Mobile)
If you’ve got the Uniswap Wallet mobile app installed, you can connect to any DApp on any web browser.
This works without the need for any browser extensions on that device.
How? Just select “WalletConnect” as your wallet connection method and scan the QR code with the wallet’s camera function.
All actual transactions need to be approved via your mobile app, keeping your wallet and seed phrase secure.
Game-Changing Sidebar (Browser Extension)
The Uniswap Wallet’s extension sidebar is an absolute game-changer.
Forget those annoying wallet extension pop-ups that cover part of your screen, then disappear as soon as you click somewhere else.
The browser Extension sidebar neatly nudges your browser over and stays put until you’re done.
It’s perfect for copying and pasting contract addresses, wallet addresses, or token amounts when making transactions and swaps. Summon or hide the sidebar with the handy shortcut Command + Shift + U – super easy to remember, too.
Whether you’re using DeFi apps or browsing for gems on Dexscreener, the sidebar conveniently sits in place. It almost feels as if you have two windows open alongside each other – the easiest way to operate.
Cool thing is, you can even switch between different browser tabs and the sidebar will stay intact. Sounds basic, but you’ll quickly notice how handy this is.
To Sum It Up
The Uniswap Wallet is more than just a decentralized exchange interface – it’s a step forward in how we use DeFi overall.
Uniswap Labs has clearly listened to user frustrations with other wallets and fixed them, focusing on ease of use.
From simple app connections and non-intrusive browser extension, to human-readable addresses and viewing all assets at once, it’s all designed for a smooth experience. Whether you use the Chrome extension or mobile app, Uniswap Wallet offers a seamless, secure, and intuitive experience across all your devices.
