Ledger Flex Fees
Ledger doesn’t charge any fees directly when you buy, sell, or transfer crypto using the Ledger Live app. However, you will need to pay standard network fees for transactions, which depend on the blockchain you’re using.
If you stake or swap crypto through Ledger Live, those actions are handled by third-party providers, and their fees will apply. Similarly, when buying or selling crypto with fiat, fees are determined by the payment processor or provider you select.
These fees can vary a lot depending on your location, payment method, and the provider you use. It’s always a good idea to review the fees carefully before completing any transaction to avoid surprises.
Our Expert Review of the Ledger Flex
In this hands-on Ledger Flex review, we’re diving into the unboxing and setup process of this next-gen hardware wallet. I’ll walk you through everything step by step and share my honest take on the device, the software, and how it all comes together. Ready to get started? Let’s go!
Here’s a quick look at what’s inside the Ledger Flex box:
- 1x Ledger Flex hardware wallet
- 1x USB-C to USB-C connector/charging cable
- 3x Seed phrase recovery sheets
- 1x Quick start guide
First Impressions of the Ledger Flex
I can’t lie, it was going to be hard to impress me after trying out the Ledger Stax—a beautiful device. However, the Ledger Flex was still pretty damn cool.
It’s compact, lightweight, and once again the E Ink® screen stands out compared to the Ledger Nano models. This Kindle-style screen is a little smaller than that of its premium sibling, but I can tell you now—it gets the job done really well.
Overall, it’s a nice and sturdy device and the aluminium shell on the bottom gives it a high-end feel. Similar to the Stax, I think the plastic back should’ve been a harder material, and unfortunately it scratched a little easily for my liking.
It’s also worth pointing out that the screen isn’t backlit, so you can’t use it in the dark without an external light source.
The Ledger Live App
Ledger Live is the app you’ll use with any Ledger device to manage your crypto. It works on both desktop and mobile, making it super easy to stay on top of your coins and tokens.
Here’s what you can do with it:
- Keep track of your portfolio: See how your crypto is doing in real-time, with support for a wide range of coins and tokens.
- Buy and sell crypto: Purchase or sell crypto straight from the app using services like MoonPay, Transak, and Ramp.
- Swap crypto: Quickly trade one cryptocurrency for another without any hassle.
- Earn rewards by staking: Stake supported coins and watch your rewards roll in, all from one place.
- Manage your NFTs: Safely store, view, and organize your NFTs in a secure spot.
- Use DeFi tools: Dive into decentralized finance with lending, borrowing, and other tools, while keeping your assets secure.
- Sync on all your devices: Use Ledger Live on multiple devices and keep everything in sync effortlessly.
The desktop app keeps it simple, with everything right there on one page. The mobile app has all the same tools, though you might need to scroll a bit to see it all.
Whether you’re on desktop or mobile, Ledger Live is user-friendly, intuitive, and loaded with features to make managing your crypto effortless.
Setting up the Ledger Flex
Thanks to the Flex’s touch screen, setting up the device is much easier than it is with the older Ledger Nano models.
Rather than using a pair of physical buttons to get through the process, you can simply tap and type on the screen directly—super handy. To make things even easier, the device itself guides you through the entire process, on-screen.
Here’s what the process looked like for me, on desktop:
- Power it on & get the Ledger Live app
Start by turning on your device using the side button—it’s the only physical button on the Ledger Flex.
Next, download the Ledger Live app on your desktop or mobile device.
To get the app, scan the QR code displayed on your Ledger Flex screen with your phone, or head to ledger.com/start if you’re on a computer.
- Plug the Ledger Flex into your desktop device
If you’re using a computer, plug your Flex in with the included USB-C cable. If you prefer to do your setup on mobile, you can connect via Bluetooth—even easier.
Quick Tip: The USB-C cable obviously requires a USB-C port on your computer, which older models might not have. If you don’t have one, you might need an adapter.
- Verify & update your device
Once connected, Ledger Live will confirm that your device is authentic and secure. It will also check if the firmware is up to date. If it’s not, you’ll get instructions to update it right on the spot.
Each step requires approval directly on your Flex’s screen, which is super responsive thanks to the E Ink® display. The updates were quick and smooth for me, taking a quick 2 minutes.
- Name your device & set a PIN
Next, you’ll give your Flex a name. Typing with the on-screen keyboard makes this easy to do, even if the screen looks small. I thought this may be tricky, since it’s a smaller screen than the Stax, but the precision is perfect.
You’ll also set a PIN to secure your Flex, between 4 and 8 digits long.
Just make sure you don’t forget this PIN—if you enter it wrong three times, the device will reset, and you’ll need to use your seed phrase to get back in.
- Create or restore a wallet
Most people will want to create a new wallet and generate a fresh recovery phrase. This is the most secure option.
If you’re transferring from another device, you can also recover an existing wallet using its recovery phrase.
- Back up your seed phrase
Now comes the most important part: backing up your recovery phrase. This is your access key to your crypto, so treat it like gold.
I said this last time, but I’ll say it again—if you lose your seed phrase, you lose your coins!
I repeat: IF YOU LOSE YOUR SEED PHRASE, YOU LOSE YOUR COINS!
Sorry for internet-yelling at you, but it just might save you from losing your fortune 🙂
Write down your 24-word phrase on at least one of the three recovery sheets included in the box. Keep it somewhere safe and dry, and consider making an extra copy to store in another secure location.
Ledger must’ve listened to their customers on this one, since the Stax box includes a single recovery sheet. We’re happy to see them going above and beyond here, to make things better for the end user.
Once written, you’ll confirm the phrase directly on the Flex. The device makes you go through all 24 words to ensure accuracy, which is a reassuring feature.
Despite how tedious this sounds, the user flow makes it super quick and easy to do—I really love this part about both the Flex and the Stax wallets.
- Install apps for your assets
After setup, you’ll need to install apps for the crypto assets you plan to store.
The Bitcoin and Ethereum apps are installed automatically, but you can easily add others like Solana or Polygon via Ledger Live to cover your whole portfolio.
- Fund your Flex wallet & customize
You’re now ready to use your Ledger Flex! Send funds to your device for secure storage, or use Ledger Live to buy crypto with fiat currency.
For a personal touch, you can customize the Flex by setting your favorite image or NFT as the lock screen. It’s a simple way to make it truly yours.
As is customary, I added a little Milk Road razzle-dazzle to try it out! Check out the Milk Road logo i put on my Flex:
How to Buy Crypto with Fiat via Ledger Live
If you’re new to crypto or just looking to add more to your wallet, the Ledger Live app makes it super simple. Here’s how you do it:
- Open the app and click on the “Buy/Sell” tab.
- Choose your fiat currency (the regular money you’re using).
- Pick the cryptocurrency you want to buy—there are loads of options to choose from!
- Enter the amount you want to purchase.
- Select your country and choose your preferred payment provider.
- Follow the steps from the provider, including any verification (like KYC) if required.
One thing to keep in mind: payment providers, currencies, and methods can all have different fees. Take a quick look at the details to make sure you’re happy with the cost before confirming.
And that’s it! Once your payment goes through, your new crypto will shortly show up in your Ledger Flex, ready to go. Easy, right?
Ledger Customer Service
Managing your own crypto comes with a lot of responsibility, but Ledger is there to help if you run into issues with your device or the Ledger Live app.
Here’s how you can get support:
- Support Page: The Ledger website has a support section with FAQs and guides that cover most common questions. It’s a good starting point for quick answers and troubleshooting.
- AI Chatbot: On the support page, you’ll find an AI chatbot by clicking the speech bubble icon in the bottom right corner. The bot is surprisingly quick and effective—I tested it with a question about Solana tokens, and it nailed the answer right away.
- Human Support: If you need personalized help, you can request assistance from a customer service agent. Just know that there might be a wait—the bot informed me I should receive a reply within 48 hours, but they got back to me in just over 24 hours with a useful answer. In my books, that’s pretty good for a large company like them.
Who’s the Ledger Flex For?
- Those wanting a user-friendly hardware wallet: If you want a straightforward and convenient way to secure your crypto, the Ledger Flex is a great choice. Its responsive E Ink® touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and sleek design make managing your assets simple and hassle-free.
- Frequent crypto users: The Flex is ideal for anyone who regularly trades or manages their crypto. Its compact design and features like Bluetooth make it easy to use on the go, while still providing the top-tier security Ledger is known for.
- People who want the Stax, without the price tag: The Flex captures most of the features and benefits of the Stax, but in a more affordable package. Users can get a premium experience, without the premium price tag.
Who’s it Not For?
- Small Crypto Holders: If you only have a small amount of crypto, the Flex might feel like more than you need. For those with minimal assets, a simpler, less expensive option may make more sense.
- Infrequent Crypto Users: If you rarely touch your crypto after storing it, a Ledger Nano wallet could be a better fit. It offers the same trusted security but at a lower price point, making it more practical for occasional users.
The Ledger Flex strikes a balance between functionality and affordability, making it a great option for most users.

Ledger Flex vs. Trezor Model T
Both the Ledger Flex and Trezor Model T are secure wallets with touchscreens and support for many coins. The Flex stands out with Bluetooth connectivity for wireless use and an E Ink® screen that’s energy-efficient and easy to read. The Model T, on the other hand, uses a much smaller color touchscreen and relies on USB for connections.

Is the Ledger Flex Safe to Use?
An Established Name in Crypto Security
Ledger isn’t new to the game—it’s been a leader in crypto security since 2014.
Today, it protects over 20% of the world’s cryptocurrency. That’s right, one-fifth of global crypto is secured by Ledger.
The company was founded by blockchain and security experts who know their stuff. With Pascal Gauthier as CEO, Ian Rogers focusing on user experience, and Charles Guillemet enhancing security, Ledger has stayed ahead in the ever-changing crypto space.
They’ve even brought in big names like Tony Fadell, the creator of the iPod, and Lily Liu from the Solana Foundation to strengthen their team.
Together, they’ve built innovative, reliable tools for managing digital assets.
Backed by Big Names
Ledger’s success has also caught the attention of major investors.
Over the years, they’ve raised $577 million, including a massive $380 million funding round in 2021 that pushed their valuation past $1.5 billion.
With backing from firms like 10T Holdings, Draper Associates, and Digital Currency Group, Ledger has cemented its reputation as one of the most trusted names in crypto security.
Navigating Challenges
Like any big player, Ledger has faced its share of challenges.
In 2020, a third-party marketing database was breached, leaking customer information like email addresses. Fortunately, the wallets and crypto systems remained untouched.
Ledger also dealt with a supply chain attack in 2023, where malicious code was inserted into their Connect Kit and affected users who interacted with certain dApps. Ledger acted fast, releasing a fix within 40 minutes and pledging to compensate affected users.
Since then, they’ve significantly upgraded their security protocols to prevent future issues.
Despite these bumps, Ledger has shown it can handle challenges head-on, and continues to prioritize the safety of its users.
Final Thoughts On The Ledger Flex
The Ledger Flex is the perfect mix of features and affordability.
The touch screen makes it super easy to navigate your crypto—way more convenient than the old Nano models relying on physical buttons. Bluetooth means you can manage everything wirelessly.
While it doesn’t have wireless charging or quite the premium design of the Stax, it still delivers most of the same functionality for a lot less.
It’s compact, sturdy, and pairs perfectly with the Ledger Live app, so you can buy, sell, swap, and stake your crypto without any hassle.
For anyone looking for modern features, security, and value, the Flex is a great choice.
