Last night, at approximately 9:33pm ET, Bitcoin hit $100,000 for the first time in its history.
Or as Saylor’s body double puts it…
It’s a massive milestone that has been 16 years in the making!
So let’s take a minute to go over how the long-term Bitcoin faithful have been rewarded, what they’ve had to grit their teeth through, and where we’re all headed from here…

First up: Bitcoiners have had to adjust their ‘mental ad-blocker’ to tune out a seemingly endless amount of headlines designed to shake their confidence over the past 16 years…
Second: They’ve had to endure a run of * counts fingers * FIVE black swan events in the span of 8 years, each resulting in price dumps anywhere from 50% to 80%…
3/ Where to from here?
Short answer? Higher.

We didn’t think we’d be writing this article so soon.
Honestly, back in October we would have estimated this was still years away, but…
In less than 60 days time, we could have our first US-based spot Solana Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).
Meaning investors will be able to buy shares in the fund → the fund will use that money to buy $SOL.
(Unlocking the potential to reach a massive new base of traditional investors that can’t or won’t invest in crypto directly).
Why the renewed hope?
Three factors:
A new crypto friendly president + a new crypto friendly SEC chair + a very particular set of deadlines.
On the 20th of Jan, Donald Trump will become the US president, and Paul Atkins will replace Gary Gensler as SEC chair…
Then five short days later, a total of four $SOL ETF applications will hit their first deadline with the SEC. 👇
Meaning the new pro-crypto administration will have its first chance to approve a long awaited Solana ETF.
If they’re true to their word in their intentions to support crypto in the US, we’ll likely see one of two things happen:
The ideal situation: they approve them on the spot.
The less ideal, but still positive situation: they give constructive feedback on amendments that need to be made, signalling genuine intention to eventually approve the ETFs.
The cherry on top of this entire potential situation?
The Grayscale Solana Trust, only holds $134.2M worth of investment.
Here’s why that’s a good thing:
Grayscale has a habit of adding high fees to its crypto ETFs, because once the trust is converted into a spot ETF, investors that want to get out will have to pay capital gains tax when they sell.
So investors have two options:
- Stay and pay high fees
- Leave and pay capital gains tax
Previously, Grayscale’s Bitcoin and Ethereum Trusts led to a whooole bunch of sell pressure hitting each token (suppressing prices), as some investors chose the second option.
But because Grayscale’s Solana Trust only holds $134.2M, it means the sell pressure should be better absorbed by the market (having less of a negative effect on its price).
In summary: HUGE if true!
