Coinbase and Greg Kohs to Debut COIN Documentary on Oct. 7th
Coinbase is one of the world’s most popular cryptocurrency exchanges and the number one exchange in the U.S. It’s one thing to know the crypto exchange and another to know Coinbase Global, Inc, the company behind it.
The crypto industry is famous for having an aura of secrecy, with little known about the inner operations of leading exchanges. But, Coinbase is bucking the trend by giving the public a front seat into its operations. The company has partnered with Canadian filmmaker Greg Kohs on a documentary about Coinbase and the general crypto industry.
COIN, the documentary, follows Coinbase’s rise from a small startup founded by CEO Brian Armstrong into the current juggernaut with over $7 billion in annual revenue. Clips from the trailer depict Coinbase’s struggles as it navigated a tumultuous regulatory environment in the crypto industry’s early days.
Before cryptocurrencies saw mainstream use as it is today, the sector faced a lot of pushback from regulators and the general public voicing concerns around illicit use. Its transition into the mainstream financial sector involved a lot of wild rides depicted in the documentary.
The documentary includes appearances from many luminaries in the crypto sector, including Coinbase founders Brian Armstrong and Fred Ehrsam; MicroStrategy Chairman Michael Saylor; Rapper-Investor Nas; and Ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin.
COIN’s director, Greg Kohs, is best known for a previous documentary, AlphaGo, that followed how an eponymous computer program mastered the game of Go and defeated a reigning world champion. AlphaGo earned positive reviews, with a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Given Kohs’ previous work, it’s safe to say his documentary about Coinbase will earn critical acclaim. It premieres on Friday, the 7th of October, 2022, and can be watched on Amazon Prime, iTunes, and YouTube.
