Ethereum Foundation to Accelerate Formal Policy Addressing Potential Conflicts of Interest

The non-profit Ethereum Foundation is stepping up its efforts to create a formal policy that addresses potential conflicts of interest.

This move comes in response to recent disclosures by two of its researchers, who revealed receiving “significant” EigenLayer token incentives.

In a statement posted on X, Aya Miyaguchi, Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation, emphasized the critical role of the organization’s credible neutrality in performing its duties within the ecosystem.

She acknowledged the ongoing conversation surrounding potential conflicts of interest and expressed the foundation’s shared concerns with the community.

Miyaguchi admitted that relying solely on culture and individual judgment has not been adequate in addressing this issue. She revealed that the Ethereum Foundation has been working on a formal policy to tackle the problem for some time and pledged to expedite this work in light of recent events. The foundation plans to provide an update on the progress of the policy soon.

The community’s reaction to the researchers’ disclosures has been swift and vocal. Lefteris Karapetsas, a former Ethereum software engineer and founder of the crypto portfolio tracking tool Rotki, called on the Ethereum Foundation to provide sufficient compensation to its colleagues.
